Day Two Build Up

Writer: Sean SandysSean Sandys

Updated: Sep 7, 2021

All of the required build up ahead of day two of this weeks round of fixtures.

Riccardo Vasconcelos (pictured above) is not out on 4 and will be hopeing to convert his total into a big score tomorrow, his side Northants are 6-0 trailing by 246 to Surrey having bowled Surrey out for 252 on day one. A big partnership from Vasconcelos and Emilio Gay is required tomorrow to protect their inexperienced middle order, Reece Topley and Rikki Clarke would be my pick of the bowlers who should be able to take wickets on a challenging wicket.

“Dissapointing and dishevelled as they succome to what could be heavy defeat.”

Glamorgan were bowled out for 97 in Cardiff and were proven to be dissapointing and dishevelled as they succome to what could be a heavy defeat as Durham surpassed their total only four down and went on to be 258 at close of play. Van der Gugtan and Michael Hogan will be crucial for Glamorgan with Michael Jones and Scott Borthwick will be integral to Durham's innings tomorrow.

Down and Out?

Gloucestershire slumped to a minor total of 76 on day one of their middle group clash against Essex, but are they out of the clash? On the premise no, on a tricky sticky wicket where bowlers gain a lot of purchase off a good length it is not completely out of the question that gloucestershire can't find their way back into the match with a few early wickets guided by their hungry seam attack led by David Payne. So not down and out more all to play for.

Elsewhere across the county scene Leciestershire posted a comanding 280-3 on day one of their game against Derbyshire. Somerset could be set to slump to a heavy defeat in Scarborough vs Yorkshire and Notts are in a commanding position despite the loss of early wickets in their home match against Lancashire.
