Day one of Warakshire vs Hampshire saw a mouth watering season defying 20 wickets fall for just a combined 233 runs across three innings!
Mason Crane (pictured above) was left out suspected to be involved with the positive covid case which emerged from the Hampshire dressing room just hours before the start of play on day one, the toss and start of play was delayed by one hour, this thought to have rumbled and disjointed the Hampshire batters ahead of their first innings collapse.
“Oh and he has hit that in the air, and there is another catch at backward point!”
BBC radio Warakshire commentator reacts in confused beusment as he watches Liam Dawson's extravagant square drive fly safely into the hands of an eager backward point. A truly bizzare dismal which begs the question was the cause of the wickets good bowling or bad batting?
Perfect Conditions? Incorrect Mindset?
The picture on day one of this contest was truly perfect for batting, the sun was beaming across a cloudless sky, the outfield was short and quick, the pitch was largely grassless and the grood was good but not packed in either side's favour. So what happened? Well, variable bounce and good, acurate swing bowling accounted for some early openers and top order wickets but as you drift towards the middle and lower order as Liam Dawson's wicket signafies poor batting caused batsmen to gift their wickets like christmas come early. Should Hampshire been bowled out for 89 and Warakshire 116? NO! Maybe it was due to the covid scare and delay but batsmen on either side adopted the incorrect mindset in their approach to each innings leading to the calamtous 20 wickets.
So with day two on the horizon some serious, cautious thinking and preperation has to be completed by either side in their mindset and approach to day two. No more false shots and aggresive swats can go by, batsmen must be diciplined and go about their batting slowely and maturaly as they dig their way back into the match.
